11/4/2022 0 Comments Lili ElbeLili Elbe (1880-1931) was portrayed by Eddie Redmayne in “The Danish Girl.” Lili was one of the first trans people ever to get SRS (sexual reassignment surgery). Her journey through her gender identity started when her wife, Gerda Gottlieb, asked her to pose for a painting in women’s clothing. In Lili's diary she wrote: “I felt very much at home in [women’s clothing] from the first moment.” She moved to Paris for a fresh start, the more open-minded society, and to look for a surgeon. Lili passed after the final surgery when her body rejected the transplanted uterus. Gerda stayed with Lili, and even sold some of her paintings to help pay for the surgery.
I created this piece using Autodesk Sketchbook during May 2022.
